Sumter Family Health Center’s experienced staff is committed to the behavioral health of our community. Each patient is treated with respect and their treatment is based on their individual needs. Our staff acts as a team working together to help those experiencing a wide range of symptoms of mental illness. Our patients successfully participate in their own treatment and our team is dedicated to supporting recovery and wellness for children, adults, and families in our area. The Behavioral Health staff is able to treat patients age 6 and up.
SFHC provides professional counseling for children, families and adults. Our team provides counseling for patients that are experiencing depression related to a medical condition and grief and/or adjustment to stressful situations with their adult children. We also help patients dealing with alcohol and drug abuse as well as obstetric patients. We make referrals to outside agencies and services when appropriate, coordinating with schools, DSS, etc. as needed. Most clients are seen one to two times per month for counseling and many also receive medication management from one of our providers. A medical provider must make a referral to the counseling staff before counseling appointments can be scheduled.
Our SFHC Behavioral Health & Counseling team is led by psychiatrist, David Justice, MD. Other team members include a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, an Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, Licensed Individual Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors and an experienced clinical support staff.
