Women's Health Providers

Carol B. Alan, M.D.

Dr. Carol Alan joined SFHC’s staff in 2006 and serves as SFHC’s staff Obstetrician/Gynecologist. Dr. Alan is a Board Certified OB/GYN and Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.  A native of Winston-Salem, NC, she received her doctorate of medicine from Johns Hopkins University and completed her residency at Duke University. Dr. Alan is married and resides in Sumter with her husband and three daughters.

 

Giselle Chandler, M.D.

Dr. Chandler joined SFHC's staff in 2011 and serves as SFHC's staff Obstetrician/Gynecologist. a native of Trinidad and Tobago, she migrated to the U.S. to pursue a degree in biology at St. John's University in Queens, N.Y. She received her doctorate of medicine from Ross University School of Medicine in the Caribbean. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of South Carolina Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Dr. Chandler lives in Sumter and is engaged to be married.

 

Barney Williams, M.D.

Dr. Williams joined SFHC's staff in 2011 and serves as SFHC's staff Obstetrician/Gynecologist. Dr. Williams is a Board Certified OB/GYN. Dr. Williams received his doctorate of medicine from Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and completed his residency at MUSC as well. He has over 42 years of experience. He and his wife reside in Sumter and have three children and eight grandchildren.

 

Elayne Steindorf, APRN, CNM

Elayne joined SFHC’s Midwifery team in January 2009. She completed her Master’s degree in Nurse-Midwifery in 2008 at the University of Indianapolis, in Indiana and is certified by the American Nurse-Midwifery Board. She is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and the South Carolina Chapter of ACNM. Prior to completing her graduate degree, Elayne spent twenty-six years as a Labor and Delivery nurse and Childbirth Educator. She is married with 3 grown daughters.

 

Jennifer Collins, APRN, CNM

Jennifer Collins joined Sumter Family Health Center in 2009. She is a board Certified Nurse-Midwife who graduated from the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Kentucky. She has previously worked in private practice in Manning since moving from Florida in 2005. Her past experience also includes seven years as a public school teacher and working as a labor and delivery nurse. She currently resides in Manning with her husband and two sons.

 

Jaime Pickering, CNM

Jaime Pickering joined the SFHC staff in 2011, as part of the Women's Health Team. She is a Certified Nurse-Midwife who graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in Nashville, TN. She is an active member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives [ACNM] and is also involved locally as a member of the South Carolina Chapter of the ACNM. Her past experiences include serving in the Army and working as a fitness trainer. Jaime is originally from Phoenix, AZ and now lives in Sumter with her partner, Michael, and their daughter and son.

 

Gwenneth Simmonds, PhD, CNM

Gwenneth joined the SFHC staff in November 2011. She is a Certified Nurse-Midwife who graduated from the University of Kentucky with her Master’s degree in Nursing, specializing in Nurse-Midwifery. She is an active member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and is also involved locally as a member of the South Carolina Chapter of this professional organization. A native of St. Kitts, West Indies she is retired from the US Army Nurse Corps and is an experienced nurse educator. Gwenneth resides in Columbia, she is the mother of one adult son.
